Davis-Standard is a global leader in extrusion and converting technology, supporting customers across more than 80 countries with over 10,000 extruders installed worldwide. In response to growing demand for “smart” manufacturing and predictive maintenance, Davis-Standard launched DS Activ-Check™, a breakthrough system for continuous extruder monitoring. Integrated with Davis-Standard’s Integrator, EPIC III®, and DS-eVue control systems, Activ-Check empowers processors with real-time predictive maintenance, early warnings of potential failures, and actionable data to optimize uptime and throughput.

With over 10,000 extruders installed across 80+ countries, Davis-Standard faced a clear market reality: customers increasingly expected connected, IoT-enabled machinery—but traditional monitoring methods provided only reactive data, after failures had already occurred. Unplanned downtime in reducers, motors, and cooling systems could halt production without warning, and Davis-Standard had no scalable digital solution to support its global installed base.

Powered by the FacilityConneX Smart Machine Platform, Davis-Standard launched DS Activ-Check™—delivering continuous monitoring of reducers, lubrication systems, motors, drive units, and barrel heating/cooling with predictive alerts via email and text before failures occur. The platform also enables Golden Run templates to define ideal production conditions, OEE and runtime KPIs, and remote access from any smart device or PC. Early adopters including Whirlpool saw immediate uptime improvements.
Building on that foundation, Davis-Standard introduced DS Activ-Connect™ as an IoT gateway—debuted at NPE to 50,000+ attendees—opening a path to digitize the entire global installed base, create new aftermarket revenue opportunities, and cement Davis-Standard’s position as a leader in smart extrusion technology.
